What is a Sip & Center? The Art House’s Pottery Night Explained

Looking for a date night in St. Augustine that's actually memorable?

Skip the usual dinner-and-drinks routine. The Sip & Center pottery class at The Art House has become one of our most-booked experiences — and once you've thrown a pot with a glass of wine in hand, you'll understand why.

What Is a Sip & Center?

A Sip & Center class is a pottery wheel experience with your favorite beverage included. Choose from craft beer, wine, or mocktails when you arrive, and feel free to grab a refill as the night goes on. We keep things relaxed, beginner-friendly, and fun — no experience needed, no pressure, just clay, good company, and a creative evening on St. Augustine Beach.

It's also become a favorite for bachelorette parties and girls' nights. There's something about getting your hands muddy together that has a way of bringing people closer.

What to Expect

When you arrive, check in and choose your drink. Your instructor will walk you through how the evening works and answer any questions before you touch a single piece of clay. Then comes the demo — watch your instructor throw a pot on the wheel so you have a sense of what you're working toward before it's your turn.

Then it's your time.

You'll be handed a ball of clay and guided through the process, step by step. We keep our class sizes small so every student gets one-on-one time with the instructor — whether you're a complete beginner or have thrown before, you'll be well looked after. By the end of the night, everyone leaves with a finished piece, happy hands, and usually a few new friends.

What Happens After You Leave

This is the part most people don't know about — and it's worth knowing before you book.

Once class ends, your pieces stay with us for the finishing process. They dry slowly to prevent cracking, then are trimmed on the wheel to clean up the base. Your name goes on the bottom before they head to the drying shelf and into their first firing — the bisque fire.

After that, we glaze your pieces in the colors you chose at the end of class and fire them one final time. What comes out is a fully finished, food-safe, microwave-safe, dishwasher-safe, and oven-safe piece of pottery — made by you, in St. Augustine Beach, on a Friday night with a glass of wine.

Pieces are typically ready for pickup in about 4–6 weeks.
